The concept of chakras evolved from the ancient spiritual systems of India and South America. Chakra, the Sanskrit word for wheel, is an energy center, a vortex of radiant light and life force, also known as 'Chi', that is constantly turning, and expanding.

Chakras radiate subtle energy within the aura, or the electromagnetic energy field, that surrounds the body. There are seven major chakra centers. Beginning at the base of the spine and following in a straight line to the top of the head. Chakras also extend throughout the front and back of the body. They are invisible centers of intense, concentrated energy, each with a distinct vibrational element, color, sound, shape and influence.

Each chakra is resonant with a color of the rainbow, starting with red at the Root chakra and continuing up the spectrum to violet at the Crown & silver white above the top of the head. At birth, the Chakras are usually open, healthy, radiant and full of vitality unless there has been birthing or prenatal trauma. As children grow and develop, the various levels of intensity of human interactions such as fear, rejection, failure and physical or emotional traumas can cause the chakras to close. By the time adulthood is reached, they may be completely closed.
