I've always dreamed of planting a scrumptious rose garden filled with rose laden trellises and fresh roses to cut for bouquets and to dry for potpourri. After moving to Singing Brook Farm, I vowed to plant vintage roses every year to create a beautiful and enchanting rose garden. Now on Midsummer days, I look forward to the roses bursting into their sweet blooms. To walk amidst the gardens and see which roses have opened ~ beckoning me to smell their delightful perfume ~ raises my spirits and makes all the hard work it takes to call this farm my home, truly worth it.

Now when the many roses bloom, we fill the gathering baskets for weeks, with enough petals to make rose oil, rose water and to put into teas, baths and soaps. Each rose was chosen for its famous fragrance, blossoms and ability to withstand the long, cold winters of this New England farm.

Roses, the symbol for Venus/Aphrodite Goddess of Love, represent divine love and perfection, abundance, fertility, love, beauty, happiness, serenity, acceptance, sweetness and joy, spirituality and angelic presence. Roses impart gentle essences that help to access the perfection that lies deep within our souls, to bring softness, lightness and inspiration. To open our hearts, to give and receive love, to move through the inharmonious realities of life with dignity, compassion and understanding while believing in the love and beauty of life.
